As data analytics becomes a key business driver across multiple industries, Mark sees great opportunity for global data science consultancy and partnerships
Data science consultancy Tessella, Altran’s World Class Centre for Analytics, has appointed Mark Kirwan to replace outgoing CEO Alan Gaby.
As of the 1st May 2017, Mark will spearhead the next phase of the company’s growth, as part of global engineering consultancy Altran, which acquired Tessella in 2015.
He says: “It is a genuinely exciting time to be running a data analytics consultancy. In the last year, many companies have started to finally understand what transformative benefits the intelligent use of data can bring to their businesses. As evidence-based decision making becomes recognised more and more by the C-suite, we may even start to see management consultants replaced by data consultants.”
“Tessella is in a perfect place to take advantage of this shift. We are behind some of the world’s most impactful data projects, including those of world leading companies such as BP, GSK, AkzoNobel and Unilever. Whilst many organisations are still finding their way in this data world, Tessella has been showing companies how to use data to improve profitability, reduce costs, solve problems, streamline operations, avoid errors and out-innovate the competition for 30 years.”
Mark concludes: “As we enter this new data led world, with the benefit of our new parent company behind us and the incredible new opportunities that Altran bring to us, I look forward to leading Tessella not just to continued growth, but to allow our people – some of the cleverest in the world – to design and deliver a number of the most exciting, innovative, business changing data projects the world will see in the coming years.”
Alan Gaby leaves Tessella at the end of Sept 2017 having joined the company in 2006 and overseen Tessella’s growth to become a world leading data science and analytics consultancy.
Alan comments: “Mark's business insight and strategic thinking is excellent and he brings an array of valuable experience that will help to deliver the next chapter of the company’s success. I know that he will provide the quality of leadership that Tessella needs and deserves and I also know that he understands how special Tessella is and will work as hard as I have done to preserve that.”
Mark has worked at Tessella for three years as Head of Sales and Marketing and as a Main Board Director. Prior to joining, he held a number of roles within technology businesses, including Operations Director at VEGA Group plc and Programme Director of Airbus Defence and Space’s Galileo Programme. He graduated from Bristol University, with a First Class honours degree in Mathematics and Statistics.
