Making hard choices well: consulting on decision-making, portfolio and planning processes

Good decisions are hard to make.  Success in business, and particularly in an R&D environment, depends on making the best possible decisions within an uncertain future; in other words, placing good bets.  It is people that make those decisions, and much of our experience lies in helping present information to people in a way that will help them make more objective decisions.  One very human bias is the tendency to jump to conclusions based on recent personal experience, rather than taking a wider view of possible options and potential consequences.  There are many other such traps that we help our clients to guard against when designing decision-making processes and the systems that support them.

Examples follow from four different domains of decision-making.  We share knowledge and skills across these domains and can transfer best practice between industry sectors; for example our work on consumer product marketing has been informed by previous experience of defence simulations.  Therefore our consulting services about making hard choices can save you the waste and frustration of re-inventing the wheel, when proven approaches and solutions already exist.
