Delivering the full potential of your software
Applications that fail to engage users will result in a frustration at best and at worse commercial failure. Tessella uses a structured process built on user centred design to deliver systems and applications that provide an outstanding user experience.
Why interface design matters
A poorly designed user interface can act as a barrier to users, leaving them confused, slowing them down or simply unable to find what they want. Designing intuitive, easy-to-use GUIs is essential if users are to access the full potential of software. The net result is lost time, frustration and software that does not deliver its full potential.
Good design is hard and without a structured process to address usability, powerful software can be degraded. Usability is hard to design and defects in usability are hard to identify through traditional testing practices. Poor usability can slip beneath the radar and only becomes a problem when the software is in use. Poor usability can be addressed after deployment, but the cost of re-working software can be significant.
User centred design
User centred design (UCD) is a structured approach to designing user interfaces which takes account of how user’s actually interact with the interface. By considered usability early in the development of new software, “seek and destroy” techniques can be used to remove usability defects at the design stage to ensure high levels of usability before the cost of building the actual software. UCD ensures software which supports the productivity of the end user’s.
Our experience
UCD is a core capability within Tessella and has been used on projects for several years. In addition to delivering consistently usable software, Tessella also support companies wishing to address the effects of poor usability in their core legacy systems.
MiLife has undergone both external usability panel studies and human trials to evaluate its efficacy. MiLife is a complex coaching tool yet studies show that 78% of users found it easy to use. Studies have also shown very impressive user weight loss and activity levels increase in users, sustained over long periods of time. The results are as good as or even better than comparable face to face coaching. One of the crucial contributors to this was outstanding user engagement, largely driven by our high usability standards. Once again, Tessella contribution to this effort has been critical.”
