The discovery and development of new agrochemicals has many parallels in the pharmaceutical industry and Tessella has many years experience of both.

In addition to the many laboratory automation and workflow projects described under our pharmaceutical projects, Tessella has carried out many similar projects specifically for global agrochemicals companies, including:

• Logistics systems to support the registration and despatch of compounds for screening
• Sample tracking for genetic analysis of biological samples
• GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) compliant electronic archives for laboratory analytical data
• Document archiving and library systems

Unlike drugs for human use, agrochemicals are applied in the field and, therefore, are much more likely to become distributed throughout the environment. Great attention is, therefore, paid to ensure that human and environmental safety is not compromised. We have been involved in several such projects:

• Environmental risk assessment modelling for regulatory submissions [The system now includes over 30 separate models covering ecological risk assessment, environmental fate modelling, dietary risk assessment and operator exposure risk assessment]
• A global laboratory information management system for pesticide residue studies
• A management system for crop pesticide residues field trials. [The system supports the creation of the initial study protocol, management of samples, laboratory analysis of samples and a large database of historical and future trials data.]
