We are looking for an experienced Salesperson / Account Manager to develop our existing business in The Netherlands and to help drive our growth in the Randstad. Tessella has 30 years of experience supporting the R&D sector in the UK and we have supported well known Anglo-Dutch corporations for nearly 10 years from both our UK offices and our office in Den Haag. The growth of opportunities in The Netherlands means that we now need dedicated sales effort to exploit them fully.

The Role

We require a Salesperson / Account Manager capable of delivering significant wins primarily within the Shell Exploration and Production business but also within other parts of the Petrochemical sector, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Government funded R&D sectors in The Netherlands. You will be responsible for all aspects of sales within these areas, from developing prospects, to producing winning proposals for projects in the range of €50K to €5m. You will be expected to work closely with technical staff to assemble competitive and innovative solutions whether as direct sales or in response to tender opportunities. The successful candidate will also be expected to help existing global account managers develop the Tessella relationship with current clients with facilities in The Netherlands.

The role will be based in our Den Haag office and you will be reporting to the Associate Director responsible for the Tessella office in The Netherlands. You will be able to maintain and develop the network of contacts we have developed across The Netherlands to build close, long-term relationships with new clients and prospect technical staff and decision makers at all levels.

You will have an annual sales target that you will be incentivised to meet. The package will depend on your skills and experience but will be a minimum of €60K with a minimum OTE of €90K plus benefits.

Our Expertise in Supporting R&D clients in the NL

Tessella has 30 years’ heritage of supporting R&D clients. We have major Dutch clients both in the public and private sectors from the Nationaal Archief to Deltares and from Shell to Unilever.

Typical individual sales range from €50k – €500k and we are hoping for considerable growth in the size of this business over the next three years.

Experience

You will have an IT background and have considerable sales experience and be able to demonstrate an ability to sell complex solutions including existing and new software. An understanding of the Oil and Gas Exploration and Production business will be a major advantage.

Your experience should include identifying opportunities, preparing responses, closing deals and developing long-term relationships with clients and partners at multiple levels. A good understanding of public sector tendering processes would be useful, as would an understanding of the government funded R&D sector in The Netherlands.

Other attributes

You’ll be driven, self-motivated and a team player able to work with a talented technical team. You will have an entrepreneurial, innovative perspective, able to offer new ways of putting together deals. You will be able to communicate complex ideas in simple terms both verbally and in writing in Dutch and English.

Tessella’s projects tend to involve complex, consultative sales with long lead times. You will need strong influencing skills and a great deal of patience and tenacity to succeed in this role.

Education

Numerate Degree or equivalent.

We are keen to recruit an enthusiastic software test engineer who can help to ensure that the software we deliver is of the highest quality and meets our clients’ needs and who will also be able to improve the way that we approach testing.

The Role

In the past, our developers have carried out all software testing activities themselves but our growth means that we need a specialist to be involved in testing our applications and to help push forward our whole approach to testing. The person fulfilling the role will be involved in all aspects of testing throughout the project lifecycle, from initial development testing through to final acceptance by the client.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right individual, with experience of software testing, who can also show us a vision of how Tessella can transform its testing to deliver robust applications to our clients more quickly and cost-effectively. You will have the opportunity to carve out a role for yourself and, if you are as successful as we hope, to grow a team that will enable your vision to be realised.

The role will include:

Working with Project Managers to produce test plans

Reviewing applications against requirements during development to confirm that all requirements have been met

Collaborating with developers to ensure that test scripts are adequate and appropriate

Performing system and regression testing of applications before they are delivered to our clients

Working with clients as they test and accept Tessella applications, advising and assisting as necessary

You will have the opportunity to work on varied, interesting projects for blue chip organisations and to further your own experience through the projects on which you work.

We will provide you with the support and training that you need to progress in your job and advance your career. A competitive package, including a profit sharing scheme, will ensure that you are well rewarded for your contribution.

Your role will, by its nature, involve finding bugs in developers’ code and you will need the interpersonal skills to handle interactions tactfully and with a sense of teamwork as we deliver to our clients. You will, at times, also need to deal with clients and demonstrate the professionalism and attitude they would expect of Tessella staff.

Your Background

Our clients are mostly scientists and engineers so a background and interest in these areas is important. We would expect you to have a numerate degree and be able to demonstrate knowledge of software testing, both theoretical and practical.

You will already have worked in a software testing role and will have gained experience that will be useful to you in taking on the new opportunities and challenges in this role.

We are looking for a management consultant with experience in IT-enabled performance improvement for blue chip organizations and government departments, to help grow and deliver our burgeoning consulting business in Europe. Tessella has nearly 30 years of experience supporting the R&D sector in the UK within pharmaceuticals, healthcare, aerospace, defence and energy industries. Increasingly our projects involve business and process change as well as solution specification and delivery, so we are looking for additional experience from a ‘hybrid’ who is comfortable in the user domains of science and engineering. We seek an exceptional individual with potential to progress rapidly, who can both ‘sell’, and deliver to our clients enhanced business performance through improved processes, informatics and information systems.

The Role

We require a consultant with proven operating experience. You will be a self-starter with good client and project management skills, responsible for your own projects and working with other Tessella staff on larger projects.

According to your experience and interests you could be working with top pharma R&D organizations, biotech companies, clinical research groups or suppliers to the healthcare sector. Recent Tessella consulting projects have typically involved IT/IS strategy, enterprise architecture, business needs / requirements analysis, leading workshops, and facilitating decisions by multidisciplinary and international client teams. Downstream activities include workflow design, sourcing and supplier negotiation, and more technical consulting on management decisions (portfolio management and project planning). Increasingly we are seeing interest in (Lean) Six Sigma approaches to improvement, and agile supply chain and manufacturing work, with a focus on process scale-up and process analytical technologies (PAT), and you could have an early opportunity to lead our consulting offer in one or more of these areas.

Within this fast-moving organization, where a high proportion of staff have PhD’s, there is no shortage of ideas and high-tech talent to back up your business acumen. The role will be based in the UK at one of our offices in Abingdon, Stevenage, Burton or Warrington, but you should expect to spend about half your time working on our clients’ premises, often on the Continent of Europe and sometimes in the US or elsewhere. An existing network of senior client contacts will be a strong advantage.

The package will depend very much on your skills and experience. For a candidate with proven consulting experience in life sciences, a salary of up to £70,000 plus benefits could be offered, depending on relevant experience. For a candidate with the right domain expertise, but with more limited experience in consultancy, a salary in the range of £40,000 to £50,000 plus benefits could be expected.

Our Expertise in Supporting R&D clients

Tessella has nearly 30 years heritage of supporting R&D clients. A range of example projects may be found on www.tessella.com/markets-clients.

Typical consulting projects range from £40k – £200k and we are planning for considerable growth in the size of this business over the next three years, as part of Tessella’s ambitious plans for continuing expansion around the core services to science-based industries

Experience

A good grounding in science, preferably with some research experience, is essential. An MBA or other formal training in business, economics, organizational and process improvement would also stand you in good stead

You will have a clear drive to add value to clients’ operations through your well-honed listening and influencing skills and industry insights. You must be confident working with top level management and able to demonstrate quick and well-founded judgments, thinking on your feet, on a wide range of business, people and technology topics. Understanding of drug R&D processes and the scientific and clinical mindsets, and clinical or (bio)chemical process development, would be essential for most likely projects within Tessella. You will bring with you experience in process and performance improvement as a minimum, and must have a strong personal interest in the successful application of IT. Experience in application of statistical principles such as experimental design, or clinical study sizing, and of diagnostics or population genomics/ genetic epidemiology, would be an advantage. Additional skills of consultants in Tessella include risk analysis, decision analysis and in-depth systems analysis and development skills, so if you are not already an IT specialist, this is a good opportunity to learn on the job within a leading IT and technology services group.

Your experience should include delivering a range of consulting projects, at least two under your own project management. Experience of sales support is also strongly desirable as you will need to work with our sales team to help qualify and scope potential projects and close deals. We have a good record of repeat business based on the strengths of our individuals, and would look to you to build our reputation further in your specialist areas of experience.

Other attributes

You’ll be driven, self-motivated and a team player able to work with a talented technical team. You will have an entrepreneurial, innovative perspective. You will be able to communicate complex ideas in simple terms both verbally and in writing in English. Knowledge of additional European language(s) would be an advantage for European working within existing Tessella clients. Experience and understanding of different national and regional working cultures is strongly desirable.

Getting Tessella’s projects off the ground tends to involve complex, multi-site sales with long lead times. We would be looking for your support to this as our business grows, so patience, tenacity and self-confidence will all be helpful.

Education

Numerate degree in a science subject, or equivalent. Doctorate and MBA both desirable.
