Tessella. Complex problems. Solved.

Tessella Prizes

In order to help attract excellent recruits, we sponsor a number of undergraduate university prizes, particularly at universities local to our various UK branch offices. Traditionally, these are within physics departments and are awarded for the best use of software in a final year project, as judged by the examiners, with the prize being £250. We also offer a number of prizes within other departments including Maths and Engineering.

We are currently looking to expand the number of university prizes we offer and since approximately 35% of our business is now within the pharmaceutical / biotech sectors, we are actively looking to establish some of these new prizes within life sciences and chemistry departments.

Several past prize winners have joined us and rapidly developed successful careers with Tessella, one example being a past Imperial College prize winner who joined us in 2004 and is now a prominent and well respected project manager within our Abingdon branch.

We currently offer a variety of prizes at Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield, Leicester, UCL and Lancaster.  We are working on extending our prize giving programme to NL and USA universities in the future.

Internships

We currently run a Summer Internship programme in Tessella’s Abingdon office, tailored towards students currently undertaking undergraduate degrees in physics at Oxford University.

We are looking for individuals with strong problem solving, software development and communication skills, and have found that students from many of our target universities are often an excellent fit for our organization.

The work will provide an excellent experience of working with professional software engineers, who have also come from a scientific background, to deliver a complex software solution. You will get first-hand experience of professional software development on real projects for our clients. You will have the opportunity to spend time shadowing our consultants as they meet with clients for both pre-sales and project related meetings. This is a really good opportunity to see inside not just our company at work, but also our clients, offering a much broader work experience than you might expect.

There is some flexibility in the terms of the internship to ensure a fit with individual’s availability, but we would expect it to last for between 12-16 weeks.

The internship is arranged, and the intern is selected, through our direct links with Oxford University.
