Tessella are proud to recruit the most gifted technical employees, something which has been integral to our success.
Read on to find out what a small selection of our employees have achieved:
Julie
Following a BA and D.Phil in Chemistry, and a Post Doctorate in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Julie became interested in the blending of life sciences and IT. Following a Masters in Bioinformatics, and 18 months working for a drug discovery company, she joined Tessella in 2006. Since then, Julie has enjoyed the challenge of acquiring new programming skills and transferring that knowledge into new and innovative ways of solving clients’ problems. She has already had the opportunity to work on a wide range of interesting projects in a variety of industry sectors, from upgrading a database which supports reporting to the UK Parliament to working on a web application for the management of waste disposal by County Councils. She has been constantly challenged to put her newly learned IT skills into practice.
Chris
During his five years at Tessella Chris has worked on a wide variety of projects. Using some of the skills acquired during his Physics PhD, Chris started work building a series of multi-language help systems and developing VB front ends for engineering systems. He then worked on a major European research project into innovative visualization techniques using C++ under Motif. This required travel to meetings in Europe and working with partners in Italy and France. Chris then worked on a Visual C++ front end to several ODBC databases for a major power supplier. After this project, Chris asked to relocate to our Warrington branch. Here he built on his C++ experience designing and developing a front end to a large medical database. He followed this by helping to develop networking components in VB and C for a major manufacturing company and is now developing sophisticated Virtual Reality and Motion Tracking systems for one of the world’s leading consumer products companies.
John
In his 7 years at Tessella, John has had a very broad range of experience and responsibility. Initially he worked on a wide range of PC database systems for a selection of different organizations. Then he was promoted to Project Manager for a series of complex projects developing front ends for relay control equipment in the power industry. These were designed using formal OO techniques and developed in Visual C++. John followed this with a C++ project writing a complex user interface for mission planning software in the defence industry. Following this, he moved to a very different project in infrastructure support, for one of the world’s largest companies. John was responsible for Oracle and SQL Server worldwide, designing, developing and rolling out systems at their sites across the world and co-ordinating team members at many international locations. John is now the Technical Manager of one of our branches. He has overall responsibility for the projects and management of staff in addition to his continuing role of providing consultancy and Project Management support.
Judith
Judith started with Tessella as a programmer in 1986. She worked on a series of projects for one of our biggest customers, working on a major scientific database, statistical analysis codes, system performance analysis and general user support. Judith’s achievements soon led her to become a project manager, where she has been responsible for managing 4 members of staff. Following several career breaks to start a family, Judith returned to work part time. She has since been promoted to Quality & Training Manager. This includes responsibility for the management and development of Tessella’s quality system and defining Tessella’s overall training strategy. Judith has continued to enhance both these systems to ensure they are used in a sensible and practical way, while still complying with the ISO9001/ TickIT and Investors in People external standards.
Tom
Tom had over 15 years in software development before joining Tessella. He started out developing compilers and operating systems before moving on to formal methods and real-time control systems. In particular he worked on control systems for medical body scanners and air traffic control. In 10 years at Tessella Tom has flourished as a project manager and analyst/designer. Working for pharmaceutical, agrochemical, Internet and energy companies, Tom has defined, managed and led many successful projects. Tom has particular experience in requirements gathering, database design, Bayesian statistics, clinical trials and validation. Tom enjoys the intellectual challenge of Tessella’s diverse range of projects and is currently Head of Tessella’s Clinical Trial Solutions.
