Going mobile with Tessella

Photo of PocketPC being used in the field

The last few years have seen a dramatic increase in the availability of powerful, stable, well connected mobile computing platforms at a reasonable price. As well as satisfying the demands of home users, these devices offer huge opportunities to scientific and engineering organizations who wish to have access to IT systems when on the move.

Although the devices may be lightweight, many software design issues are not. Data synchronization, intermittent connectivity, security, information presentation and input on small devices all require particular consideration. Tessella has a wealth of experience in related areas, such as GUI design, n-tier systems and databases, as well as mobile device development. With our expertise and certified Quality Management System you can be confident that Tessella will deliver the solution to meet your needs.

Working with Unilever Research Port Sunlight and Hindustan Lever, Tessella recently completed the pilot phase of the i-Shakti project. i-Shakti provides news and information to communities in rural India, and allows customers to view information about and order Hindustan Lever products. An important component is a mobile client that runs on a Windows Mobile based PDA, which allows saleswomen to take i-Shakti out to remote villages. Users have experienced immediate benefits from the system and the number of connected communities is set to expand massively.
