Haemophilia Home Delivery Monitoring System wins award

At the London NHS Innovator Awards 2007, the Haemophilia Home Delivery Monitoring System (HDMS) system was voted ICT and Software category winner.

The system is the result of a close collaboration between Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, the home delivery companies responsible for distributing the medication, Tessella and O2.

Emergency interventions in Haemophilia are costly and can cause considerable patient harm. HDMS allows the Haemophilia Centre to:

• Monitor blood product stock levels located at patients’ homes and at delivery companies, ensuring batch use-by-dates are complied with
• Receive from patients their self-treatment and bleeding reports, to identify problems early before they become critical
• Communicate with the home delivery company to schedule deliveries and if necessary to recall batches
• Ensure patients are administering to prescription

The system has been working for 18 months and has attracted considerable interest from other Haemophilia centres
