PRESS RELEASE: Oxfordshire science and engineering leaders open Tessella’s new head quarters

Oxford, UK | March 16 2009. Tessella, the technology and consulting services company selected by R&D, science and engineering leaders for business-critical assignments, celebrates theopening of its new headquarters in The Quadrant, Abingdon Science Park, Oxfordshire. Professor Graham Richards CBE, academic and businessman declared the building officially open in the presence of a distinguished group of leaders from local organisations engaged in science research both private and public.
Professor Richards says “I am delighted to open Tessella’s new head quarters. The commercialization of scientific intellectual property is increasingly significant to the local economy; companies like Tessella play an important role in this process.”

Abingdon is close to several major scientific research and academic establishments such as Oxford University, UKAEA, (including Joint European Torus (JET) fusion research), Harwell Laboratory, STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and the new Diamond Light Source synchrotron, the largest UK-funded scientific facility to be built for over 40 years.
Former head of Oxford University’s department of Chemistry, Professor Richards has many years of involvement of with spin-out companies. He was personally involved in the successful spin-out of Oxford Molecular Ltd. ‘Spin-outs’, his recent book, provides an insight into how this is achieved, and signposts the route for taking academic intellectual property from the lab to a start-up company and then on to stock market flotation.
