Dr Michael D. O’Shea delivered a successful presentation at the Informatics & Data Visualisation conference, held on the 10th and 11th of March 2008, in Winchester UK.

His lecture described a software system where analytical sample registration, analytical LC, MS, and data processing selection and configuration, processing, and reporting were implemented through a single unified interface, irrespective of the vendor of the underlying instrumentation control software. The software architecture extensibility was outlined and it was demonstrated that instrumentation components could be swapped in or out with little change to the common GUI or underlying software subsystem. Custom post acquisition processing requirements including for example mass spec/UV peak correlation and mass spec CODA processing were also discussed. The presentation focused on an LC/MS implementation using instrumentation controlled by MassLynx, ChemStation, and Empower software at Pfizer Global Research & Development laboratories.

The conference discussed the latest informatics solutions to handling, visualising and adding value to large complex datasets.
